COOKIE POLICY

Cookies, local storage, and your controls.

This page explains how ChatForge uses cookies, local storage, and similar technologies on charforge.org. It supplements our Privacy Policy.

What are cookies and local storage?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device by a website. Local storage is a similar browser mechanism that persists data on your device. Both are used to make websites work, remember preferences, and (with consent) measure usage.

Categories we use

Strictly necessary (no consent required)

Required for the Service to function. Cannot be switched off in our systems.

  • Authentication and session. A session cookie set after Google OAuth sign-in, used to keep you signed in and to authorize API requests. Lifetime: browser session, extended on activity.
  • Security. Cloudflare cookies (cf_clearance, __cf_bm) used to detect bots and protect against abusive traffic. Lifetime: 30 minutes to 24 hours, set automatically by Cloudflare.
  • Preferences. localStorage entries for your in-app choices (e.g. theme). Lifetime: until you clear your browser data.

Analytics (consent required where applicable)

We do not currently load third-party analytics. If we enable analytics in the future, the loaders will be blocked until you accept the "Analytics" category in the consent banner. We will update this page and the in-app privacy settings to list the vendor, cookie names, retention, transfer location, and opt-out method before any analytics script is enabled.

Marketing (not used)

We do not use marketing cookies, advertising trackers, or cross-site retargeting. If we add them in the future, they will be opt-in and disclosed here before deployment.

Consent banner

Where law requires (for example, in the EEA / UK under the ePrivacy Directive), we display a consent banner the first time you visit the Service. The banner provides "Accept all","Reject non-essential", and granular category settings with equal prominence. We record your choice (timestamp, decision, policy version) so we can demonstrate compliance. You can change your choice at any time via the in-app privacy settings link or the footer link.

Browser "Do Not Track" or global privacy controls do not, by themselves, satisfy the consent record requirement where law requires affirmative, demonstrable consent.

Third-party cookies

Third parties may set cookies when you interact with their services (for example, signing in with Google or completing a payment through Stripe). Those cookies are governed by the third party's own cookie / privacy policy, not this one. The current third-party footprint is described in the live vendor table below.

How to control cookies

You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Blocking strictly necessary cookies will prevent the Service from working. Where consent is required, withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal.

Vendor table (live)

The following vendors may set cookies or read storage on charforge.org. This table is updated before launch and whenever a new vendor is deployed.
